Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month

The month of June is designated as Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month.

During this time, Maverick County Hospital District emphasizes a greater focus on bringing awareness to this disease that affects approximately 5.8 million people in the United States. In Texas, 390,000 people age 65 and older have Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disease of the brain that causes dementia, which is a gradual loss of memory, judgment, and ability to function. This disorder usually appears in people older than age 65, but less common forms of the disease appear earlier in adulthood.
