Sexually Transmitted Infections Awareness Month

Did you know that on a yearly basis Sexually Transmitted Infections continue to surge?

During the month of April, medical organizations emphasize the importance of Sexually Transmitted Infections Awareness because they endanger the health of too many.

Maverick County Hospital District joins the national effort to prevent a surge of infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and other STI’s.

We must understand that as these infectious diseases continue to surge, we face a climbing number of babies born with syphilis, an increasing risk of infertility, getting or giving HIV, and the looming threat of untreatable gonorrhea.

Maverick County Hospital District urges individuals to help prevent the spread of STI’s. There are many ways to prevent STI’s, and fortunately, most infections are curable and all are treatable.

Each April, we observe STI Awareness Month to spread the word about what sexually transmitted infections are and how they impact people’s lives. And as we continue to focus on preventive care, we hope to inform our community on why it’s so important to test for, treat, and prevent these infections.

We encourage that you periodically get tested and treated in order to protect your health and your partner’s. Working together, we can reverse these trends, protect ourselves, and protect one another.
