National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day

Maverick County Hospital District is observing National LatinX AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) to increase awareness of the impact of HIV/AIDS on the Hispanic/Latino population in the United States.

Today, we join the NLAAD campaign and help promote HIV testing and support services in our community, including access to the Ryan White/HIV Social Services program.

According to the Center For Disease Control and Prevention, Hispanic/Latinos represent nearly 18% of the total population of the United States, but accounted for 26% of new HIV diagnoses in 2016 in the United States. It is of paramount importance that every community in the United States to have access to the latest prevention and treatment options.

“Today, we observe National Latinx AIDS Awareness Day and take an extra step to promote HIV testing and prevention,” commented Dr. Marcos A. Trevino Jr. – Director of the Ryan White Program. “It is important to raise awareness to the impact of this disease in the Hispanic/Latin community, and make sure that diagnosed citizens know that there are resources available for them.”

We are here to provide free testing and information to anyone in our 9 county service area. Preventing new cases is one of our goals.

The Ryan White/HIV Social Services Program was established to improve the quality and availability of care for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals and families affected by the HIV/AIDS disease. The program provides a comprehensive system of HIV primary care, essential support services, medication, and other access to healthcare.

“We want to let our community know that Maverick County Hospital District is available to offer healthcare resources to our patients who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS,” commented Alma Martinez, Maverick County Hospital District Chief Executive Officer. “Our Ryan White program aims to bring care for low-income, uninsured Latinos living with HIV/AIDS in our community.”
