MCHD Spotlight – April 2020 – Elias Diaz, LMFT

Elias Diaz is a native of Eagle Pass who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California in International Relations, and completed his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University in Los Angeles. He is certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has received specialized training in Prolonged Exposure for PTSD from the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Diaz is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, with 10 years of clinical experience.

Since his return to his native Eagle Pass, Elias joined the Maverick County Hospital District team as our Mental Health Clinician, LMFT. Through these services, Mr. Diaz assists by providing individual, couples, family, and group therapy to assist anyone in need. Mr. Diaz received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California in International Relations, and completed his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University in Los Angeles. He is certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has received specialized post graduate training in Prolonged Exposure for PTSD from the University of Pennsylvania. His 10 years of experience in the field include clinical practice in private and community mental health settings, research experience with the University of Southern California, and expert contribution to development of “HIV Prevention in The United States, Bolstering Latinx Gay and Bisexual Men to Promote and Reduce HIV Transmission” by The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law.

Diaz is also a member of the Texas HIV Syndicate, where he serves as Regional Launch Coordinator for the Texas Achieving Together plan to end the HIV epidemic. His advocacy informs his practice in the delivery of mental health services to HIV+ patients in our area.

MCHD believe that mental health and physical health are very much interrelated. MCHD has made Mental health services one of its top priorities as it aligns with their mission and integrates successfully with the MCHD service package.
