Great American Smokeout

Did you know that over 30 million people in the United States have diabetes?

In Maverick County, diabetes prevalence is high and we as a community must come together to bring awareness to a disease that affects about 30.3 million Americans, or 9.4% of the population.

It’s estimated that 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. The month of November has been designated as National Diabetes Awareness Month by the American Diabetes Association.

Through its Diabetes Self-Management Education Program and under the guidance of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Manrique Fuentes — RDN, LD, Maverick County Hospital District educates patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes on how they can better control their disease.

The Diabetes Education Program focuses on ensuring that each person served by the program has appropriate information regarding diabetes and other nutrition-related illnesses.

Mr. Fuentes and staff are always looking to assist patients take charge of their individual health, wellness, and care.
